Fashion - Carousel week 4

Fashion - Carousel week 4

During the course of a couple of days we made a design to add to a shirt and also produced a skirt made out of recycled plastic bags. Here are the techniques and methods we used to create these.

Disperse dyes

The results of the swatches
and the dyes can be seen in this photo
To start off we had to make colour swatches on A5 paper as we need to test and see what colour our dyes would come out once they was added to the fabric, this would then help us decide what colours to use when it comes to our design for the shirt.

After we had an idea of all the colours we had we had to design some ideas for our image. At first I was stumped for ideas as I wasn't sure at all of what to do so i decided to have a look around Pinterest as I used to use it a lot for GCSE art and was always really useful to gain inspiration.

I settled for a design from a tattoo of a basic fox out line and added the spelling of fox spelt in Runic which came out very nicely.  Following this we then had to paint our design into the paper and then heat press the design onto our fabric. (The heat transfers the design onto the fabric)

Embroidery

Embroidery is the craft of using a needle to apply thread or yarn to a fabric in order to create a design or pattern.
After we created our fabric with the design on it we then followed the design by learning how to embroil onto to make our finished product. We practised different types of stitches onto a spare piece of fabric. We learnt to important types of stitches which added good patterns to the fabric consisting of cross stitching and loop stitching.
