Foley sounds - Psycho shower scene

Foley sounds - Psycho shower scene

Using Foley sounds to recreate the audio in the shower murder scene in the film Psycho

Psycho shower scene
Over the past few lessons with Stuart we have been learning what Foley sounds are, how to create them and how to add them to a scene. What are Foley sounds though? Foley is the process of recreating everyday sounds effects that are added to film video and other media in post-production to enhance audio quality (named after Jack Donovan Foley from his work when this technique was first used during silent films)

We followed this technique by using everyday objects to create sounds for the shower scene in psycho. We used a curtain in a studio to recreate the sound of a shower curtain, rice in a pot to sound like water (which worked really well), stabbing a cabbage to simulate when the actor is stabbed and many more by using a simple audio recorder and these objects. In the end a lot of things like the curtain, a scream and water was really easy to obtain and a lot of fun to get.

During the editing process
After collecting the sounds we then had to edit the footage of the shower scene and our Foley sounds to recreate it with our own sounds and in order to complete this then used premier pro to edit it which was great as we have had experience with this software before in other session, as mentioned in my other posts.

Upon finishing todays session though I felt as if it still lacked some needed sounds as we were limited to what files we has as our original sounds we lost and further more it needs more balance to the audio as some parts were too loud compared to others
